Winter meeting – Building Geometrically Regular Honeycomb Without Ruler or Protractor with Vince Gallo

To open our Winter Meetings programme for this season, Vince Gallo, from Reigate Beekeepers Association, has kindly agreed to come along to our first Friday evening session on the 24th January and present his research findings in a talk entitled: ‘Building geometrically regular honeycomb without ruler or protractor’.

Vince will explain how bees that make individual decisions regarding the placement of each speck of wax nonetheless combine to produce well-formed comb. Comb that is a masterpiece of animal architecture and a near-optimal solution to storing food and housing larvae. Comb that is beautiful, but not perfect; indeed, Vince will explain how examination of those imperfections allowed him to explore the process of construction.

Our Winter Meetings are held at Christ Church, Brighton Rd, Purley CR8 2BN and start at 7:30pm.
