Seasonal Bee Inspector Bee Safari

On August 10th 2023, Danyal Conn and Stewart Westsmith, our local DEFRA bee inspectors, will be visiting the Hartley Down Apiary and demonstrating disease inspection to us with a Bee Disease Safari.

This will be a rare opportunity to deepen your understanding about managing your colonies and identifying pests and diseases. The event is open to the whole membership no matter what your experience of beekeeping.

During the morning, Stewart and Danyal will share their expertise and answer your questions whilst showing you firsthand the signs and symptoms of common bee diseases. There will of course be tea and cake on offer too. In the afternoon they are happy to visit the hives of any members that are concerned about pests or diseases in their home apiaries. Do please get in touch if you are intending to attend or you would like to be visited by a bee inspector.

We are unlikely to be able to offer this opportunity again for some time so encourage you to make every effort to attend. We understand that might mean taking the day off work for some of you but it is an investment in your knowledge, skills and the well-being of your bees.
